Ohio Rural Water Association's
2023 Water Taste Contest Winner
At Ohio Rural Water Association's 2023 Annual Conference on Monday, May 9th, Yellow Springs won the Ohio Rural Water Association’s 2023 water taste contest.
The Village competed against 10 other rural water systems. 2023 was the second year that the Village entered the competition. Last year they placed third, but this year they really impressed the panel of five impartial judges to edge out the top spot. The competition, is scored by a panel of five judges, who sample from a single gallon of water supplied by each of the participating systems. The judges score is based on clarity, odor and taste.
Yellow Springs current water treatment plant was completed in 2017, and is operated by a crew of just four hardworking and dedicated professionals. Their water source is from ground wells located around the treatment facility. After the water reaches the facility, it goes through a number of filtration systems, which remove the sediments and soften the water. They use green sand, gravel, pea gravel and anthracite.
